If you are looking to spend some extra time in the Fort Collins area, here are some options. Links are only included if Google is somehow not helpful.

General tip on visiting Colorado: Stay hydrated! Also, wear sunscreen if outside for long. With the altitude (5000 feet, 1525 meters), dehydration and sunburns are very real possibilities.

[edit] Places to visit near Fort Collins

The following places would all require transportation of some sort (mostly renting a car). For details or travel advice, see Google, Trip Advisor, or write to Dan Bates.

[edit] Hiking options near Fort Collins

Unfortunately, these will also require some transportation, though most are within the city of Fort Collins.

  • Lory State Park: Just beyond the reservoir to the west of Fort Collins. Several pleasant hikes (not difficult).
  • Horsetooth Mountain Park: Also just beyond the reservoir. Somewhat more difficult hikes, including a fairly difficult hike to Horsetooth Rock.
  • RMNP (see above). About 45 minutes from Fort Collins, near Estes Park.

[edit] Climbing options

Please contact Dan Bates (or another Coloradan) if you hope to go climbing while here and want advice. There are options, including Longs Peak (our local 14er, i.e., mountain above 14,000 feet), but such climbs require a good deal of preparation and a very early start time.
